What is it that makes a city great? Most of the cities that we have visited so far have had brilliant parks, historical buildings, rivers, nice people etc. All have justified the first visit and a few of them a return visit. It seems that what makes great cities great is very much an intangible denominator that cannot be described though buildings, parks or rivers. Rather, a great city has “It”. This is similar to the way that certain people just get “It” or how Kobe Bryant can find “It” in the 4th quarter. It is hard to clearly define what “It” is other than the fact that you know it when you see it.
We spent a few days in the city and though it comprises more than 1 million people, it was easy to walk in less than a day. We had one of our best meals of the trip; saw the best on-street band thus far; met Peter, a strange old German turned San Franciscan twice (once on the train and once on the street); stayed at the “Czech Inn” a very cool, modern hostel; popped to top of a 600 year old tower and had the longest, hottest train ride of all time back to Germany afterward.
We are now on day 28 and having a blast.
